General Information

The San Luis Valley Conservation Districts consist of five local Conservation Districts: Mosca-Hooper, Conejos County, Costilla, Center, and Rio Grande. Each thrives to protect our soil, water, animal habitats, wildlife as well as other natural resources. They accomplish this through working with landowners, organizations, government entities, and by providing a comprehensive educational program within the schools of the San Luis Valley. The educational program promotes stewardship of our natural resources by providing several outdoor and indoor learning experiences to San Luis Valley youth. Some of the educational lessons are listed below. Please feel free to contact the program to discuss other options to fit your educational goals.

Education Programs and Teaching Materials

The San Luis Valley Conservation District provides many indoor and outdoor educational opportunities. Student's learn how to perform hands-on snow surveys and water forecasting. Harvest and Conservation Tours allow students to learn about agriculture and land and water conservation. The Conservation District also provides numerous river and riparian studies, tree plantings and lessons on ground water and aquifers.
